IOPS ready to send regular batch of humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees

MOSCOW, January 24. /ITAR-TASS/. The Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS) is ready to send the regular batch of humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees, IOPS deputy chairwoman Irina Agapova told Itar-Tass.

“We gave the first batch of humanitarian aid in March 2013. Totally, we succeeded in giving over 70 tons of humanitarian cargoes amounting to two million dollars,” the deputy chairwoman said.

Syria told the IOPS what goods were in demand, Agapova said.

The next batch of humanitarian cargoes will include baby food - milk powder and tartans. “Now it is rather cold in Syria. Many people were homeless and had no possibility to spend the night in warm buildings,” she said.

“This is rather important experience. We established many direct contacts, including in Syrian ministries. We heard thankful words to Russian citizens, who provide aid. Such contribution stimulates us to continue the activity,” Agapova said, adding that aid was being distributed among people regardless their confession.
